description

Summary

Built in 1901, the Cable Mountain Draw Works is still visible from the floor of Zion Canyon. It offered early settlers a quick way to transport timber down from the plateau to what is now the Weeping Rock parking area. The wood was used to build houses in nearby Springdale and the original Zion Lodge. After the 1925, little usable timber remained and the cable works fell into disrepair. In 1930, the National Park Service removed the cable, but the frame of the works still remains on the top of Cable Mountain. NPS Photo/Marc Neidig
