Summary

A bright shiny new No. 8 bus pictured on O'Connell Street, Dublin. It looks as if these men can't wait to get on board and try it out for size...Thanks to A. P. Luckwill ( apl-irl/ ) for letting us know that this bus was:."a Leyland Atlantean demonstrator vehicle, fitted with a Metro-Cammell-Weymann (MCW) body. It went on to serve with four different operators including Lough Swilly. Sadly, although preserved at one stage, it was later scrapped."..billh35 ( 38401430@N06/ ) told us that this bus came to a sad end in 1987 ( irishbuses/6077675390/ ) :."The same vehicle - many years later. It was demonstrated to CIE, Belfast Corporation and the Ulster Transport Authority and its effect was to shape CIE Dublin bus buying policy for many years to come. As others have said, it eventually ended up at Lough Swilly before an attempt was made to preserve it but it was sadly scrapped. A great loss to Irish transport history!"...Date: May 1960..NLI Ref.: ODEA 20/31 ( vtls000304990 )

Images from our photo collections that show those magnificent men (and women) in their flying, choo choo-ing, and driving machines... Oh, and we've cheated, we're adding boats and ships, jaunting cars and carriages, trams too and bicycles - we're completely shameless. So, basically any form of transport - air, sea, land - with the exception of two human feet...
