Bon Homme Mill, Gavins Point Reservoir Vicinity, Tabor, Bon Homme County, SD
Summary
Significance: The Bon Homme Mill was erected in 1875 by the Hutterian Brethern, a communal religious sect that immigrated to this area from Russia the year prior. Bon Homme was the first of a number of colonies established by the Hutterites in the Great Plains region of the United States. The community was agriculturally based and the mill was used to grind grain. It was built from stonemasons and carpenters from within the community. Unfortunately the mill burned shortly after being recorded in 1959.
