Jeremiah told Baruch to go into the temple and read it tothe people, that they might repent in time. When the kingheard of the book he said, Go and fetch the roll. And theyread all to the king, the princes standing by, listening. It was a cold day. There was a warm fire in the brazieron the floor. The words of the Lord angered the king. He took someparts of the roll and cut them with his knife and threw theminto the fire. Oh, the king was not afraid of Gods words! Then the Lord said, Jeremiah, write those words again. He did write.
