Summary
Axel Torneman (Johan Axel Gustaf Törneman) (1857-1928) was a Swedish painter and sculptor. He studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and later travelled to Paris to study with the famous French sculptor Auguste Rodin. Torneman's work was influenced by the Art Nouveau movement and he is known for his paintings of idyllic landscapes and his sculptures of mythological figures. He was also a professor at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts and taught many prominent Swedish artists. Torneman's works can be found in several museums and public collections in Sweden, including the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm.
