Pacific Ocean (May. 22, 2004) Aviation Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Alfred Macasarte of Stockton, Calif., conducts a "Final Sweep" of USS Kitty Hawk's (CV 63) catapult one prior to launching an F/A-18 Hornet assigned to the Golden Dragons of Strike Fighter Squadron One Nine Two (VFA-192). Final Sweeps are performed seconds before a launch as a last second safety check. Currently under way in the 7th Fleet area of responsibility (AOR), the conventional aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk demonstrates power projection and sea control as the world's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier, operating from Yokosuka, Japan.
