description

Summary

In a royal letter of April 1705, it was decided that all artillery pieces captured as trophies by the Swedish army should be depicted before being melted down or redone. The plays were depicted during the early 18th century by siblings Anna Maria and Philip Jakob Thelott. Most images are not signed and it is therefore difficult to determine which of the siblings performed them. The images were originally stored at the College of War (Sweden) but were bound in 1746, on behalf of the cloth master Thomas Cunninghame, into three bands with cartridges made by Cunninghame himself. The three bands were then kept at the War College but are now included in the Army Museum archives. Band 1-2 contains cannons taken during the Great Nordic War and Band 3 contains older Swedish pieces stored at fortresses as well as pieces captured in the years 1598-1679.

A very large dataset of various big guns, howitzers, mortars, columbiads, all types of canon-like things - everything besides machine guns and rockets. This collection as well as all massive collections on Picryl.com required two steps: First, we picked a set to train AI vision to recognize cannon artillery, and after that, ran all 25M+ images in our database through our image recognition network. All media in the collection is in the public domain. There is no limitation on the dataset usage - educational, scientific, or commercial.
