Attack on Ft. Pulaski Savannah, Georgia, April 1862.
Summary
Shows a section of the Savannah River with Long Island (containing an unnamed Confederate battery) and Cockspur Island (containing Fort Pulaski). Also shows the Union position on Big Tybee Island.
"Foundation laid in 1832 by Lt. Mansfield & Lt. Benshaw. Built of brick. Has one teir of guns in casemates and one en Barbette on each side of the four channel fronts -- Walls 7 ft. thick at bottom and 5 ft. at top and are surrounded by a wet ditch 20 ft. wide. The whole fort is intended to mount 102 guns. It now mounts (April 1862) 47 guns 1 being a 13 inch."--Page caption.
