Atentatorul la viaţa M. S. Regeluĭ Românieĭ, Foaia Populară, 6 feb 1900
Summary
"The man who attempted to kill HM the King of Romania". Drawing made from a photograph, and used to illustrate a study on political criminals, published by the Italian criminologist Cesare Lombroso. As Lombroso explains, the 30-year-old would-be assassin was mentally deranged, and entertained suicidal thoughts. This image was found in his home upon arrest. It shows him dressed up in paramilitary clothes of his own design, pointing a revolver at his chest; his girlfriend clings on to him, made to look as if she is rescuing him at the last minute. The man's attempt on King Carol I's life was inoffensive, as he only shot his gun at night, aiming for a lit window and missing by much. He was a recidivist, already pardoned by the king for a murder conviction.
