Army Staff Sgt. Alex Nieves, finance noncommissioned

Army Staff Sgt. Alex Nieves, finance noncommissioned officer, 143rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), places a headband on a woman who just completed the Tough Mudder endurance challenge Nov. 5, 2016, in Palm Bay, Fla. Nieves, a native of Juncos, Puerto Rico, joined more than 20 Soldiers from the 143rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) providing moral support for this international athletic extravaganza that comprises an 10-12 mile course that features nearly two dozen obstacles that tests individual strength and stamina through team building and group collaboration. Many Tough Mudder participants possess the physical, mental and spiritual qualities that define effective leadership. These traits have enticed the Army Reserve to sponsor 10 Tough Mudder challenges this year as a means to promote the Army Reserve and recruit individuals who, by completing the Tough Mudder, have demonstrated many of the qualities necessary to train, mentor and lead Soldiers.
