Laurenz Janscha, 1749-1812 was an Austrian-Slovenian landscape artist and illustrator. He received his training in the landscape drawing from Johann Christian Brand and Franz Edmund Weirotter. From 1780 he also worked on etchings. In 1785, Janscha became a member of the Collection de 50 vues de la ville de Vienne of the Viennese publisher Artaria. He contributed watercolor templates for seven predominantly scenic print sets. He also concentrated on the making of veduta and views of the Viennese environment and other areas. A veduta is a highly detailed, usually large-scale painting or, more often print, of a cityscape or some other vista. The painters of vedute are referred to as vedutisti Which were engraved and published by several Viennese publishers. In 1803 he painted a large panorama of Vienna, which was shown in a gallery in the Prater and in other cities. Janscha taught drawing in the Viennese Academy: in 1811 he became a professor.
