PACIFIC OCEAN (May. 19, 2008) An F/A-18E Super Hornet assigned to the "Eagles" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 115 heads towards the arresting gear cables on the flight deck of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) becoming one of the first aircraft to be flown onto the ship for it's 2008 deployment. Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 14 flew onto Ronald Reagan hours after the ship departed from its homeport of San Diego for a scheduled deployment. In the United States Navy, these consist of ships commissioned with hull classification symbols CV (aircraft carrier), CVA (attack aircraft carrier), CVB (large aircraft carrier), CVL (light aircraft carrier), CVN (aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion) and CVAN (attack aircraft carrier (nuclear propulsion). The first aircraft carrier commissioned into the United States Navy was USS Langley (CV-1) on 20 March 1922.
