Summary

This shot reminded me of the Cheshire Cat, it faded away until all that was left was the smile! In this case the mighty Great Northern Railway has gone but Mr. O'Dea has discovered the "smile" that remained - the badge/crest on the side of an old engine that somehow escaped removal...Labelled in the catalogue as "Badge on old GMR fire engine, Inchicore, Co. Dublin", BeachcomberAustralia ( /photos/beachcomberaustralia/ ) suggests that this is a Merryweather model fire appliance - with a possibility (unconfirmed) that it is now among several museum pieces based at Howth.......Photographer: James P. O'Dea..Collection:James P. O'Dea ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Collection/vtls000148612 ) ..Date: 11 May 1963..NLI Ref.: ODEA 36/16 ( http://catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000306469 ) ..You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie ( http://catalogue.nli.ie )
