After Cpl. Christopher A. Terrell, the assistant family
After Cpl. Christopher A. Terrell, the assistant family readiness officer and an assistant course instructor, simulated an attack from behind, Karen J. Riles, a Marine spouse, takes him down to the ground using a modified technique, derived from the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, during a rape prevention and self defense class at the Marine Forces Europe headquarters building. The class, provided by the MARFOREUR Family Readiness Office, taught techniques from the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program that have been modified specifically for females, such as moves effective for height and weight differences, but also emphasized the importance of situational awareness, risk prevention and developing an offensive and protective mentality.
