Adam T. Raczkowski, an 89-year-old veteran of World War I, is congratulated by Secretary of the Army John O. Marsh Jr. after receiving his Purple Heart Medal nearly 66 years after it was earned. Raczkowski was a private serving in France with 2nd Battalion, 308th Infantry, 77th Division, when he was hospitalized after a German gas attack. Not realizing that injuries sustained in a gas attack qualified him for a Purple Heart, Raczkowski never put in for the medal
