San Diego (Mar. 09, 2004) A Sailor is welcomed home today as five San Diego-based ships assigned to Expeditionary Strike Group One (ESG-1) return from a six-and-a-half month deployment in support of the global war on terrorism. ESG-1 consists of the amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu (LHA 5), the amphibious transport dock USS Ogden (LPD 5), the guided missile destroyer USS Decatur (DDG 73), the guided missile Frigate USS Jarrett (FFG 33) and the amphibious dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42). ESG-1 is capable of operating in shallow, narrow waterways or the open ocean, day and night, in all weather conditions in support of marine or joint forces operating near-shore or deep inland.
