A modern antique. (BM 1851,0901.100)

A very stout and short old lady seated at a card-table in profile to the left frowning at the cards which she holds in her gloved left hand. She wears a cap on her high-dressed hair, and from the back of her cap a spider is suspended on its thread. She wears a flowered dress, with lace-trimmed ruffles and apron. On the table in front of her are three coins and the ace of hearts. 26 November 1782
