On the terrace of a public garden, at the edge of a stairway, a young officer facing forward points out an object with his cane to a young lady who takes his arm. She is in a profile and wears a high hat with bows of ribbon. She wears three petticoats, the outer one raised at the sides. In the background right, some promenaders stop and chat.
