Bon Echo Inn Caretaker's cottage - 1935
Summary
This photo is one of a series of 19 photos taken in 1935 of the various outbuildings of the famous Bon Echo Inn. The Inn was destroyed by fire from a lightning strike one year later. ..This was the cottage Mike Schwager (Bon Echo Mike) used during his tenure at Bon Echo as caretaker. He stayed in the cottage year round and looked after the Bon Echo property for Merrill Denison. Mike was hired shortly after the Inn fire and remained on the property until his death in 1974 at the age of 91...The cottage is now gone but the location is marked with a cairn in the clearing where the annual Bon Echo Art Exhibition & Sale is held.
