On the ancient brick wall immediately opposite this building,and which bounds the court-yards on the Thames side, areseveral devices in glazed bricks. Among them may be dis-cerned three or four crosses of different forms very prettilyworked, and which seem to fix the erection of this wall priorto the reformation. PARK AND GARDENS. Much of the beauty of the extensive grounds belonging toLambeth palace is owing to the late archbishop, who, besidesconsiderably enlarging them, made many improvements, andcaused the whole to be laid out with great taste, » The park and gardens, before the recent additions made tothem, were estimated at about thirteen acres; b they now con-tain at least eighteen.
