Ub Iwerks (Ubbe Eert Iwwerks) was an American animator, cartoonist and special effects technician. He was born on 24 March 1901 in Kansas City, Missouri, and died on 7 July 1971 in Burbank, California. Iwerks is best known for his work with Walt Disney, co-creating the character of Mickey Mouse and designing other iconic Disney characters such as Donald Duck, Goofy and Pluto. He also developed many of the animation techniques used in early Disney films, including the multiplane camera and the use of cel animation. After leaving Disney in 1930, Iwerks set up his own animation studio and continued to work in the industry until his death. He was posthumously inducted into the Disney Legends Hall of Fame in 1989.
