Alfredo Helsby (1862–1933) was born into a family of photographers in 1862, in Chile. Alfredo studied painting under the British painter Thomas Somerscales at Colegio Mackay de Valparaíso. He later studied under Alfredo Valenzuela Puelma. In 1906, Alfredo spent a year traveling through Europe before he settled in Paris, where he studied under Jean-Paul Laurens. Along with Valenzuela Puelma, Alfredo exhibited his works in Paris, and London. In 1908, he returned to Chile. Alfredo Helsby died in 1933. Artist auction records.
