Lieut-Gen. Andre Skouro, the idol of the Cossacks on his famous black stallion, photographed on his march toward Kiev. The war in South Russia is preeminantly one of cavalry attack, and Skouro has in two years developed into an extraordinary capacity as a strategist and leader. When the Bolsheviks entered the Caucasus, he was a second Lieut. with the Czar's army. He fled to the forests near Pietogorst, whither there joined him dozens of reckless and high spirited young men. As his fame grew recruits arrived and his handful became a regiment of his original regiment only seventeen survive

American Red Cross - Headquarters & Buildings - American Red Cross in North Russia. The largest building in Archangel is a great prison, belonging to the old regime, when prisons were a very vital and important matter in the business of government. It was emptied by the Bolsheviks when they arrived in Archangel, and it is now again filled with Bolsheviks, being used as a barracks for American troops. The tallest man in the group is the American Assistant Provost Marshal, Lt. Wron of Detroit, who was in charge of the prison. Next to him is Lt. E.W. Hallowell of Los Angeles
