In 1912, Bright was hired by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, where she worked as a junior researcher in the Department of Physiology, while also holding a position as a research assistant at Harvard Medical School, also in the Department of Physiology. In 1918, Bright worked with the oceanographer at Woods Hole. From 1918 to 1924, Bright worked with oceanographer Alfred C. Redfield.
